Meet Heather McPherson

Attorney Heather McPherson

Heather McPherson is a dedicated attorney with over two decades of experience practicing in the areas of estate planning, estate and trust administration, and real estate. Her passion for the legal profession is deeply rooted, beginning with her very first job cleaning her father's law office. From there, Heather started working in the office during summers while attending college, gradually immersing herself in the firm's legal practice. In 2001, she officially joined her father's firm, continuing the family legacy and developing her knowledge.

However, it wasn't until Heather began law school that she knew she had truly found her place. For the first time, she felt a deep excitement about her education—eager to attend classes, engage in discussions, and dive into the complexities of the law. This passion for learning and the thrill of being part of the legal community solidified her commitment to the profession.

Since joining the ISBA in 2001, Heather has held numerous leadership roles that have shaped her into the well-rounded and trusted leader she is today. She has served on the ISBA Board of Governors, as well as serving as Secretary, Treasurer, and Chair of the Illinois Lawyers’ Political Action Committee (LAWPAC). Her contributions extend to several key committees, including the Standing Committees on Investments, Budget and Audit, and Personnel. Heather’s dedication to the legal community also includes her role on the Board of Directors for ISBA Mutual Insurance Company and the Illinois Bar Foundation, where she continues to advocate for the profession and its members.

Beyond her work in the legal field, Heather is deeply committed to her local community. Since returning to her hometown after law school, she has been actively involved in volunteer work in many capacities, including serving as Chairperson of the Board of Directors for a regional health network that is the largest employer in her community. Additionally, Heather served as President of the Stephenson County Bar Association, where her leadership helped strengthen the ties between local and state bar associations.

Heather’s leadership philosophy is grounded in service, inclusivity, and innovation. She believes in empowering others and fostering a collaborative environment where every lawyer feels valued and supported. Heather is committed to enhancing lawyer wellness, providing cutting-edge practice management tools, and ensuring that the ISBA remains a beacon of support and resources for all its members.

Heather’s journey in the legal profession has been transformative, not just for her but for countless clients and people she has mentored, collaborated with, and supported along the way. It was within the legal community and the ISBA that she found her "ISBA family," a network of colleagues and friends who have supported her throughout her career. The ISBA has provided Heather with opportunities for leadership, networking, mentorship, education, and personal growth, and she is passionate about ensuring that these opportunities remain available for every lawyer in Illinois.

As she runs for ISBA 3rd Vice President, Heather’s vision is clear: to build a stronger, more vibrant legal community that serves its members with integrity, fosters innovation, and champions the cause of justice. She looks forward to meeting with ISBA members across the state, hearing their ideas, and working together to shape the future of the ISBA.

Join Heather on this journey to ensure that the ISBA continues to be a source of strength, support, and inspiration for all Illinois lawyers.
