Focus for the ISBA

Heather is committed to advancing the ISBA with a clear and focused agenda that addresses the most pressing needs of our legal community. Her platform is built on six key priorities, each designed to enhance the well-being, effectiveness, and engagement of Illinois lawyers. These focuses reflect Heather’s dedication to innovation, collaboration, and the continued success of the ISBA in serving its members and the public. Through these initiatives, Heather aims to strengthen our profession, protect its integrity, and ensure that every lawyer in Illinois has the support and resources they need to thrive.

1. Lawyer Wellness: Economic, Mental Health, and Physical Health

Heather is deeply committed to the well-being of every lawyer in Illinois. She understands that when lawyers thrive—economically, mentally, and physically—they are better equipped to serve their clients, contribute to their communities, and uphold the cause of justice. As ISBA 3rd Vice President, Heather will prioritize initiatives that support lawyer wellness, including programs that address financial stability, mental health resources, and physical well-being. By fostering a culture of wellness, Heather aims to ensure that every lawyer can achieve a balanced, fulfilling career while making a positive impact on society.

2. Oppose Non-Lawyer Ownership of Law Firms

Heather is a strong advocate for maintaining the independence of the legal profession. She firmly opposes non-lawyer ownership of law firms, believing that it threatens the integrity of the profession and the accessibility of justice. Heather's stance is rooted in the conviction that lawyers should remain free to serve their clients without external pressures that could compromise their ethical standards or the quality of their legal services. As 3rd Vice President, she will work tirelessly to protect the profession’s independence and ensure that justice remains accessible to all.

3. Provide Practice Management Tools to ISBA Lawyers

Heather recognizes that well-managed practices lead to better outcomes for clients, lawyers, and the justice system as a whole. She is committed to equipping ISBA lawyers with the best practice management tools available, harnessing the power of technology and AI to streamline operations and improve efficiency. By providing these resources, Heather aims to help lawyers enhance their practices, reduce stress, and focus on what truly matters—delivering exceptional legal services and upholding justice.

4. Increased Collaboration, Inclusivity, and Networking Opportunities

Heather believes in the power of collaboration and inclusivity within the legal community. As ISBA Vice President, she will work to increase collaboration with county bar associations and other bar associations across Illinois, fostering stronger relationships and shared goals. Heather is committed to expanding opportunities for networking and mentorship through both formal and informal programs, ensuring that lawyers from all backgrounds feel included and supported. Recognizing the importance of personal connections, she plans to bring back more in-person events and gatherings, creating spaces for lawyers to connect, learn, and grow together. Heather embraces DEI initiatives, ensuring that diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the forefront of the ISBA’s mission.

5. Continued Growth and Support of the Rural Practice Initiative (RPI)

Heather is a strong supporter of the ISBA's Rural Practice Initiative (RPI), which addresses the critical need for legal services in underserved rural areas of Illinois. The RPI brings lawyers and summer associates to these regions, promoting access to justice for communities that might otherwise go without essential legal representation. As 3rd Vice President, Heather will advocate for the continued expansion and support of the RPI, ensuring that all Illinois residents have access to quality legal services, regardless of their location. Learn more about RPI here.

6. Strengthening Professional Development and Continuing Legal Education (CLE) Opportunities

Heather understands that ongoing education and professional development are key to maintaining a vibrant and effective legal profession. As ISBA 3rd Vice President, she will work to expand and enhance CLE opportunities, making them more accessible and relevant to lawyers at all stages of their careers. Heather is committed to offering innovative, practical, and forward-thinking CLE programs that address current challenges and emerging trends in the legal field. By strengthening professional development resources, she aims to ensure that Illinois lawyers remain at the forefront of the profession, equipped with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed.

Heather’s focus is built on a foundation of wellness, independence, collaboration, inclusivity, and innovation. She is dedicated to leading the ISBA with integrity, ensuring that every lawyer has the support, resources, and freedom to succeed in their practice and contribute to the greater good.
